Daddy and Momma have winter camp!

This morning we went to 5 Rivers for a bit! We were hoping to snowshoe but there just really wasn't enough snow for that. More ice than snow so we did the best we could on our feet. We checked out the progress on the new nature center being built and walked around the "Backyard Wildlife" trail.

Then we went around the woodlot trail and stopped to check the tree where we saw a screech owl last year. Guess what? He (or she!) was in there again and we were so quiet that we could get right up to the foot of the tree!! Good thing Maddie is at Fowler or we would be in major trouble! We might be any way!

Back to having fun!!

Winter Camp Drop Off!

Maddie is all set for a day or two at Camp. We dropped her off in time for dinner this afternoon. Before we left we all walked (snow shoed!) down to the main camp area so Maddie could take some winter photos with her big camera.

They had plowed so we were able to walk somewhat easily except it is now mostly ice! The snowshoes helped us though.

My favorite sign!

Ok...these were bugs? larva? What the heck? We don't know but they were indeed alive and scurrying about! I should've taken a video.

When we were done Maddie went back to set up her sleeping bag and meet her roommates. They seem to be quite a bit younger than her this year so that will be interesting! Pick up time will come all too soon as far as she is concerned!

Cabin Fever....just barely!

We finally have some snow so we could, I suppose, have a tiny touch of cabin fever! We did attend Cabin Fever Day for 4H. Brian taught the kids how to make chicken vegetable soup, chicken sandwiches and zucchini brownies. They had a ton of fun and so did we!

In the afternoon Maddie stayed to paint while Brian and I took the kitchen supplies home again! Here is what she painted! Aren't they pretty?

On Sunday we got more snow! In fact it snowed all day into the early morning on Monday. We did some shoveling and snow shoeing around the backyard. Then Maddie and Brian built a radio! We could very faintly hear WGY. They were really excited that it worked! This is both history (World War II) and Physics but don't tell Maddie...she just thinks it was fun!

Today is back to work and school for us! The wind is whipping around the house though so I think probably snuggling in and reading will be the activities over tromping around the yard. I might lose the littlest day care child out there today!

Finally!!!

Finally some snow!! As in measurable, play in it snow! It turned out to be a day care snow day too so no kiddos here. Brian came home early from work. We snuggled in for a bit then headed out to walk to the grocery store and shovel. Now its back inside for more reading, knitting and who knows what!

Bowling and Rationing....

Maddie and a couple of the other 4H Teens went to join some of the senior citizens in an assisted living home play Wii bowling. This was Maddie's first time using a Wii so they had quite a bit of fun showing her how to play. The kids had fun, the seniors had fun so we will probably be making a return trip.

Maddie getting her lesson!

We are studying World War II in history right now. We are trying to take things a bit slower this time in Modern History. Last time around Maddie was 9 and it is a rough brutal and close to home time period which all turned out to be a bit too much. This time we are going slower and focusing more. We picked up the book World War II for kids from the library thinking it would have some good activities and information in it. It really is very good and has lots of things to do. Maddie picked out the "Rationing Game" to try. For the next month we are going to keep track of what we have for dinner and what it would've cost us in points. We are only doing dinner because we decided trying to figure out how to do it fairly with the day care kids for the rest of the meals was just too much! It will still give all of us an appreciation of what it was like I think. So we got set up tonight and used our first points on ziti with sausage!

I laid everything out for Maddie so she could determine what would cost points. The home canned tomatoes cost 0!

Now we are getting ready for Winter Camp, Public Presentations and 4H shooting sports!
